Meditative VR - Grow

Developed an interactive meditative virtual reality application in hopes of reducing stress for students at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Created for Georgia Institute of Technology’s Data Visualization Lab as an independent project.

Explanation of work:

When the user begins the VR application, they are transported to a barren land with one area of rain. The environment is gloomy and dark. The user can control this patch of rain with the right-handed controller. Wherever the rain touches, trees begin to grow. While the trees are growing, the surroundings become brighter with patches of sunlight entering the area. However, without rain for a long period of time, the trees begin to shrivel back and disappear.
I wanted to show and remind the students about self-care through the rain and trees, where the rain symbolizes nurturing and the trees represent dreams, relationships, skills, and many more. Nothing grows without care and nurture. However, it is also not a one-time action. I wanted to emphasize that one should provide constant care.
The project was envisioned to be installed in Crosland Tower, a library space at Georgia Institute of Technology. With this in mind, I designed the application to be stationary and require minimum movement.

Meditative VR - Grow is developed in Unity for the Oculus Quest. To allow for maximum replayability, I took care to implement a random seed growing script to provide greater variability.
